Deputy Allen Kay O'Neal was gunned down during a traffic stop on Hwy 341 North on January 25, 1975. Kay O'Neal was a respected member of the law enforcement community and a favorite son of this county. He was 37 years old.

Deputy Samuel F. Smith died on March 2, 2001 after he and another officer struggled with a drunk driver. Sam was a K-9 officer who loved his duties as a patrol officer. He was 53 years old.
